Brevede was born out of passion and determination to provide the best coffee has to offer, from quality in a cup to destination spaces where community builds and flourishes organically. Our lifelong involvement in volunteer and non-profit projects locally and around the world has been our priority and the birth of Brevede only expanded our capacity and heart to fund and participate where we know people are reached with help, provision and growth.

My husband, Nik and I were both born in European countries, immigrating to America as kids from large families who arrived with only a $100 and a few suitcases. Our paths were extremely similar, taken in by sponsors who I’m pretty certain could be angels from above. The way they hosted, nurtured and guided our families towards success, we are forever grateful. Our experiences under the Soviet Union regime marked us deeply, leaving a desire to serve those less fortunate with every opportunity and taking nothing for granted, family, food, ability to work, create, build and encourage. Growing up in Washington state, we met, got married and started our family in 2004 and stepped into our calling of servanthood together.

In Washington, my artistic & entrepreneur endeavors began as a stay at home mom, trying to help out financially. Through creativity, I found ways to take on projects in the Event industry, started baking and selling gourmet desserts, wedding cakes, event planning and decor, hair styling, floral design and even dabbled in wedding photography. The more I tried, the more I found that in this country, I have access to a blank canvas and the possibilities are based on my willingness to try new things, work hard and ability to stretch my capacity by slamming the door in the face of fear. I went on to be a Real Estate Agent, had a Designer Finishes company for 7 years and helped start a Logistics Brokerage company which my husband still runs to this day.

In 2017, with our three daughters, we moved to Lexington, KY, in a nutshell, it’s a God story because we never saw it coming nor were we looking to move out of WA state. While we had the flexibility to work from home, we dove into building our house ourselves, Nik ended up taking on the full load of our Logistics company, while I took on the construction project. I still have the napkin where I drew our house plan on. I did end up putting it on graph paper, filing permits, hiring contractors all myself, oh and praying fervently for God to lead because I was learning everything from scratch and his miracles is what held it all together. We quickly found ourselves longing for the coffee culture we grew up with in Seattle, WA, everything else about Kentucky, we loved! It was common for us to enjoy long evenings at coffee shops, connecting with friends and making new ones. We began to realize that everything kept pointing us to build a Coffee Company, it would expand our reach in funding more non-profit projects, serve our community and we could guarantee a healthy, quality flow of Espresso for ourselves and those we love. We were in!

As I carried the coffeeshop buildout vision, Nik was fully on board to support me and drink all the test batches while rolling up his sleeves and DIY’ing way more than he expected. In fact, the many sleepless nights that brought Brevede to life is also where Brevede showed up for us and fueled us to keep moving. Life is best when it intertwines with grit, wild endeavors and people worth doing it with and for.

As with anything worthwhile, we had to overcome a few bumps along the way or maybe an uphill battle is more accurate. While we were in search of a Brick & Mortar spot in 2018, I had the great idea hit me to start a Mobile Coffee Bar, I’ve never seen one before, just coffee trucks, so my wheels began to spin as I started putting a plan on paper and sold it to Nik by saying, we will save on overhead costs, we can go inside places, Weddings will love it and it will be a less overwhelming way we can introduce the area to our brand. I asked him if I go find a client, can we start, he said YES but didn’t count on that I would have our first client locked in almost immediately and promised them that we will be ready to serve in a month. Let’s just say overwhelming is an understatement, we were booked every week from day one and it ended up catapulting a movement of Mobile Coffee Bars all over, people were watching us online and so many calls started coming in from all over the states seeking advice. I found out that my brother in law decades ago ran a Mobile Bar in Washington for a coffee company, it wasn’t new but we were still on the forefront of it spreading like wildfire. Through serving events, we came upon our current location at the Pepper Distillery District. In January of 2020 we began the buildout, pressure washing, mopping, scraping, painting, drilling, hammering, plumbing, electrical, furniture, equipment, and so on. Then, as we're all aware, covid shut down hit March 2020, we kept going, our Mobile Bar Service came to a halt but the brick & mortar became our hiding place, our escapism, our all or nothing. Everyone asked the same question, are you not afraid?

You know, FEAR was the word of the year apparently and I learned first hand that you can’t run from it or escape it by avoiding it and hiding. But you can recognize it, understand it’s role and move forward with authority to not give it life over your mindset and your actions. Thankfully, in September 2020 we were able to open our physical doors and let the wonderful humans we missed out on so much start flooding in. Things looked a little different than planned – X’s on the floors to keep social distance, 50% of chair capacity set up, masks on our faces but still all smiles, we overjoyed even though our first day we worked 6am to midnight, you all never stopped coming.

As passionate as we are about coffee and making an excellent product with high-quality beans and some pretty fancy equipment, the coffee aspect was always second to us. First, we love community – to see people gathering together over a cup of coffee to build some ridiculously good memories, celebrate a new life event, catch up, study or just get away from life hassles and relax for a bit.

Our name Brevede is a play on the word brevity, which means "shortness of time." The goal was to create a space where people could go to slow down and enjoy their time a bit deeper. Time passes by so quickly and it’s a precious gift we all can give one another, pause and enjoy the little things with the people we love!

We've met so many kind and wonderful souls, heard thousands of great life stories, built new friendships, and have been able to do it all with being extremely blessed by the people behind the scenes, behind our bars, the ones who make this massive machine keep running, our employees, our TEAM, big THANKS to the smiles, efforts, time they’ve given to the little Coffeeshop that could.. 

We enjoy hosting events, whether private or public and love having a chance to interact with the community in that way as well. We strive for our place to be the first choice for many who are looking for a nice relaxing time with a great cup of coffee!
